Scam messages often try to create fear, urgency, or curiosity. They may claim that a package is delayed, an account is locked, a bill is unpaid, or a family member needs money.
Common warning signs
- The message pressures you to act immediately.
- It asks for a password, verification code, gift card, or payment.
- The web address looks unusual or misspelled.
- The message comes from an unfamiliar number.
- The wording does not sound like the person or organization it claims to represent.
What to do
- Do not select the link.
- Do not reply.
- Open the company’s official app or website separately.
- Call the person or organization using a number you already trust.
- Block and report the message when possible.
Legitimate organizations do not normally ask for passwords or one-time verification codes by text. When in doubt, pause and verify through a separate, trusted method.
